SACMI completes the photovoltaic roofing at the Imola site

With an installed power of 2.1 MW, these solar panels can ‘self-produce’ approximately 50% of electricity requirements at the main site in via Selice Provinciale 17A. Paolo Mongardi, President of SACMI, states: “This project is a big step forwards in the strategy of boosting our companies’ environmental performance”

SACMI has completed the photovoltaic roofing at the Imola manufacturing site. Finished in record time (work was begun in March and completed at the end of May), this solar power project covers more than 27,000 m2 of roofing at the plant in via Selice Provinciale 17A.
With an installed power of 2.1 MW, the system raises the amount of self-generated electricity (from both photovoltaic panels and the trigeneration plant, operational since 2016) to some 50% of overall requirements at the Imola site.
Photovoltaic roofing is “a major step forwards in the strategy of improving the environmental performance of SACMI companies”, points out President Paolo Mongardi. Indeed, this policy sees the Imola-based parent company at the forefront of efforts to boost sustainability. However, its ambitions are much broader, and those efforts will soon target all the Group’s Italian companies and, subsequently, global improvements to the corporate ESG (environmental, social, governance) profile.
“Sustainability is more than a civic duty: it’s also a parameter by which the market measures us”, observes SACMI's President, Paolo Mongardi. “Hence our heavy investment in Group sustainability strategy, in terms of both technological improvements to our products and the sustainability of our plants. We aim to keep on improving our environmental indicators (energy consumption, water, waste, circular economy), but without forgetting crucial social aspects such as personnel training and close ties with the communities that host us”.
The Imola plant is one of over 200 facilities. Most are located in Emilia-Romagna and are directly planned, built and managed by Protesa, the SACMI Group company that specializes, among other things, in the design, supply and management of photovoltaic systems. This gives SACMI an increasingly strong position in the Renewable Energy Management field, which is moving towards the provision of comprehensive plant engineering services that cover both technological and authorization aspects. From this perspective, dozens of plants are currently under construction, with 35 MW planned for 2023 alone and a total of 300 MW already authorized.
